نشر المئات من أعضاء الجالية اليهودية في أستراليا، إعلانا على صفحة كاملة، في صحيفتين محليتين، لتأكيد رفضهم خطط الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترامب لتهجير سكان غزة، والذي وصفوه بالتطهير العرقي.
ووقع على الإعلان 500 من الشخصيات والنشطاء اليهود الأستراليين، بينهم الموسيقي بن لي والممثلة ميريام مارغوليس والمحامون أندريا دورباش وروبرت ريختر وجوش بورنشتاين وجورج نيوهاوس والمتخصص في الرعاية الصحية الدكتور أليكس ووداك والمفوض المقيم لشؤون الإعاقة الدكتورة روندا جالبالي ورجل الأعمال المعروف رون فينكل والمؤلفون الحائزون على جوائز آنا فينبرغ وإليانور ليمبريخت ودينيس ألتمان وكلير رايت.
وأعلن المجلس اليهودي في أستراليا دعمه، لمنظمي العريضة الموقعة، والتأكيد على تأييد موقف أستراليا من تصريحات ترامب التي وصفوها بـ"القاسية، وغير القانونية" للتطهير العرقي للفلسطينيين، من غزة، ودعم حق الفلسطينيين في العودة وبناء القطاع.
من جانبها قالت سارة شوارتز، المديرة التنفيذية، للمجلس اليهودي في أستراليا، إن للفلسطينيين حق تقرير المصير والمساواة والعدالة والكرامة والحرية، ويجب على حكومتنا أخذ خطوات مادية لدعم هذه الحقوق، ورفض دعوات التطهير العرقي والإبادة الجماعية.
وأضافت أن قمع المعارضين اليهود، في أعلى مستوياته على الإطلاق، لافتة إلى أن المدافعين عن الاحتلال، مثل مارك ليبلر، وستيف بانون، يصفون اليهود المنتقدين لانتهاكات الاحتلال، بالمثيرين للاشمئزاز والعدو رقم واحد.
وشددت على أن التوقيع علنا على عريضة كهذه ليس أمرا سهلا، وقالت إن "حقيقة أن العديد من الناس كانوا على استعداد للتوقيع باسمهم والوقوف على أكتاف أسلافنا اليهود الذين وقفوا ضد الظلم، تظهر أنه لم يعد ممكنا تجاهل الأصوات اليهودية الداعمة للفلسطينيين".
