وكان المفاوضون من أعضاء منظمة الصحة العالمية البالغ عددهم 194 دولة يأملون في التوصل إلى مسودة اتفاق نهائية بحلول نهاية الجمعة على أمل اعتماد نص ملزم قانونا في الجمعية العامة للمنظمة في وقت لاحق من هذا الشهر.
وقالت المنظمة التي تستضيف المفاوضات التي تقودها الدول الأعضاء في بيان مساء الجمعة إن الدول لم تفلح في الوفاء بالموعد النهائي وستواصل الآن المفاوضات في الأسابيع المقبلة قبل انعقاد الجمعية العامة.
وقال بريشيس ماتسوسو، الرئيس المشارك لهيئة التفاوض الحكومية الدولية التي تقود المحادثات “هذه ليست مناورة بسيطة… إنجاز هذا يعني فعله على النحو الصحيح”.
والهدف من الوثيقة إلى جانب سلسلة من التعديلات للقواعد القائمة للتعامل مع الأوبئة هو دعم دفاعات العالم ضد مسببات الأمراض الجديدة بعد أن قتلت جائحة كوفيد-19 ملايين الأشخاص.
شلكن الخبراء قالوا إن عملية التفاوض على امتدادها اعترضتها خلافات عميقة، خاصة فيما يتعلق بالمساواة، كما أن الجدول الزمني للتوصل إلى اتفاق كان طموحا دائما. وكان للاتفاق طابع سياسي عند بعض الدول.
