The U.S. military announced on Wednesday evening that one service member is missing and three others were injured but in stable condition after an emergency landing of a helicopter in the Arabian Sea.

The aircraft involved was an MH-60S Seahawk, and the military stated there is no indication that the incident was caused by hostile action.

A statement from the U.S. Navy’s Fifth Fleet said search and rescue operations are currently underway to locate the missing crew member, while an investigation into the circumstances of the incident has been launched.

The helicopter was operating from the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77), which is deployed in the region.

According to Reuters, helicopter water landings can be extremely dangerous even for experienced pilots, as aircraft with a high center of gravity may overturn once submerged.

U.S. forces have been on heightened alert in the region for months amid intermittent violence, despite a declared ceasefire between the United States and Iran.

On June 15, the United States and Iran—along with Pakistani mediation—announced an agreement on a memorandum of understanding aimed at ending the war that began after the U.S. and Israel launched operations against Iran on February 28.
