A young man from the town of al-Haddadiyah in southern rural Hasakah was critically injured after attempting suicide by shooting himself, according to local sources. He was rushed to a hospital for emergency treatment, where medical staff described his condition as critical.

Available information indicates that the incident occurred when the young man attempted to take his own life using a firearm. He was transferred to hospital in severe condition, while further details regarding the immediate circumstances remain unclear.

Mounting Economic and Psychological Pressures

The incident comes amid growing economic and living pressures across large parts of Syria, where residents face increasing difficulty in securing basic needs due to sharply rising living costs.

Available indicators suggest that these conditions are placing rising psychological and social burdens on the population, contributing to increased levels of stress and despair among certain groups, particularly amid declining job opportunities and deteriorating purchasing power.

Concerning Suicide Figures

In a related context, 37 suicide cases have been recorded since the beginning of 2026, according to monitoring by the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, reflecting the continued presence of such incidents in recent months.

The figures indicate that the phenomenon persists across different regions, with varying cases reported, amid a lack of comprehensive measures addressing the underlying economic and social factors.
